Kode With Klossy

Kode with Klossy is an orginization that offers free coding bootcamps to teenage womena dn non-binary fold across the world. For many of these students this is their first opportunity to learn STEM skills and gain exposure to the world of tech. In the USA, only 40% of all public high schools teach a foundational computer science course.

I was accepted as a KWK lead instructor. The process began with a three month bootcamp where we were taught the basics of Swift, and built community. Over the summer of 2022 I was flown to los Angeles, where I worked with a co-instructor and lead a team of assistants to build a strong curriculum. I also worked as the point person in connection with our host site, and admin in ensuring all our students were prepared correctly. I then lead a two week bootcamp on Swift. Throughout the bootcamp our students learnt the fundamentals of app creation, from code to layout. We taught them everything from how to access github to color theory. The bootcamp culminated in our students presenting their final projects. Each group brainstormed an app. They created apps they would find helpful, or apps that could help society. With me and my teams support as project managers, the teams each created a strong concept, wireframe and MVP for a their apps. They then presented their apps to their peers, families and VPs at Beklin, our host site.

Our students left the bootcamp with an incredible increase in confidence, skills and community. With the help of my team, I was able to cultivate a strong community and lead to a 98% success rate of our bootcamp.
